Random: Stereotypes from Google Images

While working on the concept for a magazine concept with this guy, we began to have a little argument about children.

I had suggested an image of a cute kid (above) and he immediately told me that that kid was “too cute to be Kenyan”. So we got into a little discussion about what Kenyan children really look like.

This inevitably became a question that was too difficult for our meagre minds. So we turned to the all knowing, all savvy, Google images. This is what we found:

Fairly accurate. But someone immediately pointed out that they wondered how accurate this would be for other countries/regions. Below are the findings from our exercise. Continue reading

Website of The Year: Sonko.co.ke

I pity anyone who is designing a website for a politician.

Actually I pity anyone designing anything on the internet at all this year because the team behind Mike Sonko just put a wrap and a bow on anything web related for 2013.

Badvertising Vol 2: Five Reasons to “Do Milk”

There’s this brilliant new Kenyan ad that’s been on air for a little over a week now that’s making waves.

Sorry. Wrong ad.

I meant this one.

Now I know what you’re thinking. “Evian did the baby thing like 3 years ago, and it went viral and was widely recognized: why would a Kenyan agency copy them so blatantly?”

Stop thinking that. Nobody copied anyone, OK? This is an innovative idea from the finest Kenyan agency out there. Continue reading

Badvertising: “Spoof Ads by Diasporadical” Vol. 1

Now, if you’re on Twitter, you’ve probably seen most of these ‘spoof ads’ I put out there randomly during the day. But a lot of our readers are not are not online when the ads go up or are anti-social networking(read: cavemen).

So I’ve compiled them here and added one or two. Also because I’ve noted some of you are appropriating these to yourselves. Naughty, naughty. Behave, children.
