Need I Remind You, Mr. Politician?

A letter from one Wanjiku, who you often assume is too shallow to understand the complexities of the constitution, but who you forget wasn’t too blind to read and understand it.

Dear Member of Parliament,

It is my little understanding that laws are what govern every creature in the universe. Whether it be the law of gravity, or the law of the jungle, religious law or customary law. Every creature, great or small operates within certain laws. It’s what maintains balance, peace and in human society, social order.

What you and your colleagues are having a hard time accepting is that we now have a new world order. A new Kenyan order, if you like. The minute we promulgated the new constitution was the very minute the CHANGE we so sought, fought over and voted for came to effect. On that day, 10 months ago, we assumed a new law.

And no matter one’s positions of power or stature, President, Prime Minister, MP or such, every Kenyan is required to abide by the highest law of the land – not the highest office.

The difference between the new constitution and anything new you will ever come across in your lives is that it didn’t become part of the system, it became THE system.

That said, I believe it’s time to drop the word “New” from New Constitution.

There can only be one law above all laws. No old or new law, that operates in the same land. Granted, there is a place for transition, but provisions and exception would have been placed in the current law, to guide such transitions in various institutions. If they do not exist, then they are null and void.

Kindly note, a “gentleman’s agreement” made over a couple of drinks or cast in the video clip of an avid journalist’s camera, holds no ground in front of the law. But should you wish to challenge such an agreement, you might as well do so within the provisions of the law. The law, which I, in my assumed idiocy, and tax-paying humbleness, voted for.

It always boils down to me.

It’s me who cast my vote that saw you take that parliamentary seat. It’s my meager taxes that run this country and pays your salary. That’s right.  It’s ME with the power!

And if you doubt what I am capable of, then now take note that it is my figurine now residing in the Chief Justice’s chambers. All numb, deaf, blind and dumb as you’ve always perceived me to be. Yes, they carved out a statue for me.

And statues are carved out for heroes.

Men and women who give their lives so that others may live a better life than they do. Poor people who give everything they’ve got and do not expect anything in return. Patriots who do not protect their selfish interests but instead defend the interests of the nation. Ordinary people who do not need positions of leadership to make a positive change in this country. All they need is power.

And I am the one with the power. All you have is an office, one that was created for you to serve me. The one thing we have in common is the law. And we are both bound by it.

Need I remind you?

See you in court,

Wanjku.

Lucky Number 7

After going without a gaffer for some time Chelsea unveiled Andre Villas – Boas as their seventh coach…Of from winning a treble with Porto many people are left to wonder. Is he the right man for the Stamford bridge hot seat, what has he achieved and why him!

Other than having worked as a member of the back room staff to Jose Mourinho’s not much can be said about him. For starters he is only 33, more than half the age of Sir Alex and younger than Frank Lampard.  Despite the fact that Chelsea paid £13.2million just to activate the release clause in his contract signifies that there is something Abramovich must have seen in this lad. After how Carlo was fired I bet no respectable name in soccer wants the same to happen to him hence the reason many of them deciding to keep off.

I hope that he will take control of the dressing room known to have “super ego’s” in players such as Drogba, Lampard and John Terry.  He is expected to make some changes here and there, expect to see Malouda, Anelka, Lampard and Terry or even Drogba to seek greener pastures. There is talk of him signing top striker Falcao and Joao Moutinho Porto’s equivalent of Xavi who I believe can make Torres shine again. Many are still waiting to see whether or not Luka modric, Neymar, Lukaku will join Chelsea.

The Chelsea job is rumored to be more difficult than that of the Prime Minister, It is hoped that he will be given time to build and gel this team. There should be no immediate pressure on wining all the 4 trophies this season. Good luck on your appointment Mr. Boas!

See you all in August when the EPL resumes…Sir Alex watch out Chelsea is coming back for their Tittle!.

Massacred at Wembley

Flash back: A while back I did a piece on who I thought were worthy enough to be Champions league contender’s, I left out Manchester United and yes fans were (Insert curse word) Bitching saying this and that, I was accused of being  biased and all sorts of bull.

Saturday May 28 Barcelona finally proved why from the get go I thought of the red devils as pretenders and not contender’s  to the throne, after simple…no easy victories against Schalke and Chelsea the United army for some reason thought they could win at Wembley.  What happened in the next 90 minutes was a massacre.

The duo of Messi, Iniesta and Xavi had an easy night watching UTD fall into their hands slowly by slowly. Xavi the mid-field general kept strolling goal wards and after a number of unchallenged touches found Pedro who smashed the ball past hopeless 40 year old Van der Sar.  Next was Messi who also unleashed a shot from approx. 25 yards to catch the defense off guard once more.

Barcelona clearly broke down United with their accurate passing, and it was amazing to see how composed and relaxed the Barca lads are with the ball. Watching Xavi school Carrick in the art of midfield domination was another fine moment in soccer too.  He touched the ball 163 times while the poor lad Carrick could only manage a mere 54 touches. The champions made a total of 148 passes, 141 of those completed with a success rate of 95%, showing why he is the mid field master Xavi ran a total of 8 miles while Carrick only managed 5 miles, a lesson indeed.

After a lesson well learnt I expect Sir Alex to tinker with his squad a little bit, like any other coach who has dreams of mounting a serious challenge in Europe come next season.

United were clearly out done in every way possible, the thrashing they got should be enough to shut up the red devils brigade for a while.

Verdict: Barcelona deserve to be champions of Europe. How about united…un worthy contenders I guess.

DR readers: Its  been a nice first season being a writer see you all next season, watch out for Copa America from July 2011. Lets look forward to Miami Heat heat giving Dallas a lesson or two on winning champions ships.

El Nino Finally Scores

This past weekend soccer fans from all over the globe were treated to some great matches. In England all the top three teams Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal were scheduled to play over the weekend.

League leaders Man United made it through narrowly with a 1-0 win over Everton a win that puts them 6 points ahead of the nearest rivals Chelsea who also had a very entertaining game at relegation bound West ham United.

The good news being that 50 Million Torres finally found the net after coming on a substitute with roughly 8 minutes to go. His 15 hour (731 minutes) goal drought finally came to an end.  He clearly was in danger of being one if not the most expensive flops in the history of the beautiful game. His goal made Stamford bride erupt as well as sparkling jubilant celebrations scenes in which he got mobbed by his entire team mates.

Next game for them is against Tottenham and it will be interesting to see how him and Drogba will play as Drog is still in fine form at the moment.

Lastly Arsenal did what they do best! Playing mediocre if not horrible soccer. In their previous match against Spurs they were leading 3-1 only to surrender the lead and tie the game at 3-3.  Today they actually surrendered the game at 90 minutes to Bolton. One would wonder WTF is wrong with this team something needs to be done, from word that is going round Wenger may this time need to get rid of some of his flops if he hopes to challenge for the tittle next season.

More to come in the Champions league edition tomorrow DR readers!

The Final Four UCL Contenders?

This has been a very long season and many teams have fallen by the wayside while the stronger ones have continued to progress forward.

Manchester United saw off England rivals Chelsea and booked a date with Schalke of Germany in the Semi-finals. The other two teams that will meet in the other Semi-final are Real Madrid and Barcelona of Spain. At this stage the Championship is still wide open with each of the four remaining teams strong contenders.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Schalke will end Man U’s run for another Champions League trophy and whether or not Jose Mourinho will emerge victorious again and win the cup for the third time with three different clubs. Every team here has a chance to win the cup provided they play their cards right, a question to all the DR readers out there is who will emerge the winner this time round is it going to be Sir Alex, Guardiola, Jose or Ralf Rangnick?

My Position On KenyaFeb28

I’m certainly not the first to delve into the subject of #KenyaFeb28. The lovely 3CB, who’s also a writer on DR, touched on the subject on her blog. Another blogger Kachwanya eulogized the event weeks before its perceived death. Let me also clarify that though I am in support of #KenyaFeb28, I do not speak on behalf of the organizers. I just happen to a be a blogger and tweep (@Nittzsah) who doesn’t mind singing the National Anthem, for the whole world to see and for some politician to get into their thick skull that Kenyans are capable of uniting for a common cause, despite their tribal differences. Should I repeat that statement for the delusional cynics? Continue reading
